Robert H. Baker was born in Blackfoot, Idaho. He attended the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. After graduation, he taught mathematics and coached football for three years at Twin Falls High School
Robert then received his Master's Degree in Education from the University of Oregon in 1955. He has also held positions as an adjunct professor at Portland State University, and as a professor at the University of Idaho. Robert has published articles on the history of education in the Pacific Northwest and has written three other books on education: The History of Education in Oregon, The History of the Schoolhouse, and Education in Oregon.
