Richmond Lattimore, born in Abbeville, South Carolina, on November 26, 1940, is a poet and an acclaimed translator of Chinese poetry. He has translated the works of many Asian poets into English. Among his translations are poems by Li Po and Du Fu and a selection of the lyrics of the Tang dynasty poet Li Bai. His work has been translated into more than twenty languages and has appeared widely in magazines and anthologies
Lattimore also teaches at the University of Virginia and publishes a regular e-zine on Asian Art and Literature called Art Asia.
