He was the first person to solve the Riemann hypothesis, finding a new proof in 1994, and later proved many other fundamental results in number theory. He worked on the Manhattan Project during World War II and invented the laser in 1960. His contributions to mathematics, computing, and science received numerous awards, including two National Medals of Science.
