Pringle Kennedy was born in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1909. After graduating from the Taft School in Watertown, he went on to Harvard University where he earned his M.A. in English in 1930. He then studied law at Columbia University for three years before deciding to pursue a career in writing
Kennedy joined the Saturday Evening Post in 1936 where he worked until the early 1940s. During this time, Kennedy also wrote for Harper's Bazaar, Esquire, The American Mercury, and other publications. He served as an officer in the U.S.
Army during World War II before returning to the Post in 1946. In 1948 he became editor of McCall's Magazine for three months before resigning to become a full-time author.
