Phaedrus is a character in the Greek mythology, the son of Poseidon and one of the Argonauts. When he was a child, his father wanted to keep him from learning how to read, so he had him learn music and mathematics instead. He became the tutor of Chrysippus of Soli (the Stoic philosopher) and succeeded in spite of his father's efforts. His son, Phaedrus, would later become a renowned geometer and mathematician.
