Peter Freuchen is a well-known Inuit author. In 1961 he became the first Inuk to visit the United States, and since then he has been travelling the world, giving lectures and taking part in events to promote Inuit culture. He has also been a senator in Igloolik, Nunavut, for a term of office from 2005 to 2007, and a member of Nunavut's Legislative Assembly from 2007 to 2010.
