Perry Morris was born in London in 1941 and grew up in Australia. After studying science at university, he began a career in journalism which led to a spell as a foreign correspondent for the Australian Broadcasting Commission. His interest in travel and adventure led him to join the Royal Australian Navy where he served for four years. During this period he was awarded the Navy Cross for life saving during an attack by Iraqi missile boats
He left the navy with the rank of captain, having served on several ships including the frigate HMAS Perth which was involved in many naval engagements with Japanese forces during World War II. After leaving the navy, he worked as a journalist writing for newspapers, magazines and radio stations around the world before becoming a full-time writer of non-fiction books. Perry Morris is the author of twelve books including The South Pole, which was nominated for an International Book Award.
