Patty Smyth (born June 15, 1957) is an American musician. She is best known as the lead singer of the rock band the Smithereens. After dropping out of college, Smyth and DiOrio moved back to Greenwich where she started playing at local dives including the White Horse Tavern with future Smithereens drummer Ricky Phillips. The group recorded demos at Phillips' home studio and were signed soon after. They began performing in clubs around the east coast, eventually signing with Capitol Records in 1986.

Smyth was also a member of Rufus-era Chaka Khan's band, which included Phil Collins on drums, and later joined Babysitters. Smyth was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Smithereens on May 18, 2017
