Patrick Marber was born in London in 1955. He has written several plays including Closer, which was nominated for six Olivier Awards, and the award-winning musicals The History Boys, The Play What I Wrote, and Closer. He has also written the screenplays for the films Closer, When Did You Last See Your Father? and Party Animals among others.
