Olav Hauge (1915-1991) was one of the most influential Norwegian Christian writers of the 20th century. He was also a noted teacher of theology, history, philosophy and psychology. His theological studies were interrupted by World War II, during which he served as an officer in the army intelligence service. Hauge taught at the University of Oslo from 1949 to 1985. During this period, he published many books and articles on theology, ethics and psychology.

He also served as pastor in various churches. Hauge was awarded two honorary doctorates by the University of Oslo (1950 and 1959). He is perhaps best known for his books "Tragedies" (1947), "Temptation" (1970) and "Theological Reflections" (1983).
