Norodom Sihamoni, President of the Democratic Kampuchea, was born on July 2, 1928, in Kampong Cham province. He was educated at the Royal University of Phnom Penh, where he earned a law degree. He was made Prime Minister of Democratic Kampuchea in late 1978 when head of state Khieu Samphan was deposed. He became president in 1985 after being elected by the National Assembly
