Nelson W. Pyles was born in Fort Worth, Texas in 1932. He was the oldest of four children born to Louis and Mary Delores Pyles. His father was a car salesman and his mother a homemaker
At age 17, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served for over ten years. He later joined the United States Air Force where he served for another ten years. Nelson began his writing career at age 28, when he published his first book, The Secret of Happiness.
Since then, he has written more than twenty books, which have been translated into fifteen foreign languages. Nelson has received awards from the American Publishers Association, the Oklahoma Booksellers Association, and the Oklahoma Arts Council.
