Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969) was a Japanese martial artist, who founded the modern martial art of Aikido. He was also the founder of the Aiki-Budo movement, which became one of many branches of Aikido. After World War II he led the development of the Aikido techniques known as "Okinawa-te", which were created by his students after his death. He is referred to as Doshu (Japanese for "Master Teacher") in Japan and referred to as "Sensei" (Japanese for "Teacher") in other countries, including the United States.
