He was an American film and theatre actor whose career spanned from 1939 to 1966. Clift was noted for his intense beauty and swarthy good looks that helped him to become a leading man in Hollywood. He is best known for his roles in From Here to Eternity (1953) and A Place in the Sun (1951).
