Mohsen Sheha was born in Tehran in 1977. He has received a B.A. in English literature from the University of Tehran, an M.A. in Comparative Literature from Ohio State University, and a Ph.D
in Creative Writing from the University of California Irvine. He is currently an associate professor of English language and literature at the University of Tehran. He has published three books of poetry, including his first book of poetry, The Night the World Turned Upside Down, which was awarded the First-Place Prize in the "New Poets" category at the 2005 Ithaca Poetry Prize International Competition and presented to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad by the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression (ABFFE).
He is also the author of two collections of short stories: Habibi and The Borderland. He has published five collections of short stories and four novels: The Borderland (winner of the 2013 EFG South Asian Literature Prize), Iran (winner of 2011 Man Booker International Prize for Fiction), A Different Sky (shortlisted for Best Translated Book Award), and Argo (winner of six awards including Best Translated Book Award, Foreword Magazine's Book of the Year Award, and Italy's Scuola dei Ricercatori Prize).
