Her books have been published in Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Poland, Hungary, Greece and Australia. She was born in Nagoya and received a BA from the University of Tokyo. In 1993 she became a full-time writer and illustrator
She participated in the Haruki Murakami project “The Elephant Vanishes” in 2006, and her illustrations were featured on a special edition of “The Elephant Vanishes” published by Akashic Books in 2007.
