Michel O'Brien was born in Dublin on 26th October, 1959. He studied at St. Patrick's College, Maynooth, UCD and Trinity College Dublin. He is a Chartered Accountant who qualified as a solicitor in 1994
He practised as a solicitor on the Mercantile Court before joining the Irish Times as a general practitioner. He graduated with an MA in Modern European History from University College Dublin in 2002 and received his MBA from Dublin City University. He was awarded the European Commission’s Erasmus Scholarship to study at Harvard Business School where he had an opportunity to study with Professor Michael Porter of the Harvard Business School for two years between 2004-2006.
Michel is also a regular contributor to The Irish Times and writes regularly on economic affairs for The Sunday Business Post, Irish Times and The Irish Independent. Michel began contributing to the Guardian after being invited by editor Jonathan Freedland to write on globalisation and politics.
