Mazigh Buzakhar was born in the city of Algiers, Algeria. She is a contemporary Algerian writer who has published several novels, plays, and essays. Buzakhar was awarded the prize for the best young writer of her generation by the Algerian Ministry of Culture. She received the Prix de la Femme Arabe de l'Union Arabe (Arabic Woman Prize of the Arab Union) in 2009.
