From the beginning to the end, he was constantly on the move. He traveled extensively throughout Europe and North America, living in New York City from 1916 through 1918. His work became more abstract during this period, including pieces such as Nude Descending a Staircase, which was first exhibited at the Society of Independent Artists show in 1917.

Duchamp continued to experiment with abstract art throughout his career. He took great pride in his work and received many honors throughout his lifetime.
