L.T. Hill was born in Philadelphia and grew up in the back woods of Alabama. He was a star athlete and enjoyed music and writing as well as many other high school activities. He enjoyed college at Jacksonville State University where he was an all-American football player
He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama where he also starred as a running back for the Crimson Tide football team. In 1956, L.T. Hill joined the United States Army where he served as a Sergeant during the Korean War.
He returned to Jacksonville State University to earn his master's degree in education and later completed a doctorate in psychology from Florida State University. L.T.
