Lewis Grassic Gibbon is a Scottish author. He was born in 1920 and educated at the Royal High School, Edinburgh, Glasgow University and Harvard University, where he received his PhD in English Literature. He served in the Royal Navy throughout the war and was a member of the British delegation to the United Nations Atomic Energy Commission. In 1960 he came to Canada with his wife and children and settled in Toronto
His output of fiction includes The Seasons, which won the World Fantasy Award for Best Novel in 1979, The Master of Ballantrae series, an eight-volume saga of historical fantasy novels set on Scotland's Hebridean Island, and A Child Called It.
