Sudbrink was born in Chicago and spent her youth in the suburbs of Chicago and Arizona. She graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in English. She worked as a reporter for such major newspapers as the Arizona Republic, the Chicago Sun-Times, and the Denver Post before becoming a freelance writer.
She lives in Arizona with her husband, two sons, and three dogs.
