He instead pursued his true passion which was acting. Hart first took an interest in acting when he acted in a church play at age 11 where he received praise from other children. The following year he signed up for a drama class at his school which led to an invitation to participate in a summer theater program where he starred as Young Scrooge in A Christmas Carol directed by actor/teacher Roy Harris.

This led to other roles during high school where Kevin was named Mr. Top Ten in the region by a Virginia newspaper and a year later was named Mr. Virginia by a national publication.

He also starred in local commercials and made his television debut on JAG where Kevin played Lieutenant Colonel Tony Taylor, a commanding officer who helps Lieutenant Harmon Rabb leave the military after being falsely accused of murder. In 1994 Hart moved from Virginia to Atlanta, Georgia with his mother where she opened a daycare business for children of military families stationed at local bases. In 1995 Hart graduated from Carver High School in Atlanta where he was voted Most Likely To Succeed and Most Popular Student by students and faculty alike.

He then attended Clark Atlanta University where he studied communications and theater arts while working a job at a McDonalds Restaurant every day after school until 4:30pm showing customers how to place their orders through earpiece headsets.
