Kathryn Smith was born in Indiana and grew up in Virginia. She began writing at age eight, penning her first poem, "Poem about an Ant." She received her B.A. in English from the University of South Carolina, where she was the editor of the literary magazine. Her short stories have appeared in Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Best of Chicken Soup for the Soul, The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror 2004, and other publications
She also received an M.A. from Columbia University. Kathryn lives with her husband and two children near Charleston, South Carolina.
