Jon Tester is a senator from Montana, and the ranking member on the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee. He is the only Democrat on the committee, and he has been an advocate for veterans since his service in Vietnam. Tester received his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from University of Montana in 1972, and then served in the Navy for four years. He later earned his law degree from the University of Montana School of Law in 1978
He served as an Assistant Attorney General under Governor Marc Racicot, and then practiced law. During this time, he had three children with his wife, Susie. After twenty-five years of practicing law, Tester decided to run for Congress to represent Montana's 1st district.
He was elected in 1978 and served three terms in Congress before leaving to serve as Governor of Montana from 1993-2001. He returned to Washington D.C., where he was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2006 and reelected in 2012.
