Patrick's College in Menlo Park, California for three years before joining The Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. as a professor of philosophy. He became Dean of the University in 1923 and retired in 1938 to become president of the university.

When the university was dissolved in 1940, he became professor emeritus and served on several committees of the university until his death on November 15, 1970 in Washington D.C.
