John Alexander Dowie was a preacher and teacher who founded the Church of Christ among the Jews. He was born in 1849, in Parris, Pennsylvania. His father died when he was five years old, and his mother remarried a man named John Dowie. The family moved to Philadelphia, where John attended school until he was nine years old
