Jerry DeWitt grew up in the small town of Axtell, Texas. His father was a local preacher and his mother was a school teacher. After he graduated, he worked as a reporter for the now defunct "Lone Star Chronicle" in Dallas, Texas where he covered crime and court stories as well as political features. In 2010, Jerry was honored as The Best Overall Reporter by the Texas Press Association for his work at Lone Star Chronicle. After working for several years as a reporter and editor at newspapers in Dallas and Fort Worth, Jerry returned to Axtell to teach English and Journalism at Axtell High School and also write for the local newspaper, The Axtell Tribune.

He is currently working on his second book about his life growing up in the small town of Axtell, Texas.
