Jean-Marie Goulemot was born in France in 1930. He was drafted into the French army during the Second World War. He was captured by the German army and held prisoner for almost seven months. He spent part of the war in a gas chamber and was freed along with fellow prisoners by British and American soldiers
He and his wife and two children immigrated to the United States in 1958, settling in Los Angeles. Goulemot has written more than forty books, including twelve novels and twenty-two plays, as well as hundreds of short stories. He has won many awards, including an Academy Award for Best Short Film, two Emmy Awards, and a Golden Globe Award.
