Jason Mewes (born 1969) is an American actor, writer, director, and producer. He created the character Jay in the film Clerks, which he also wrote and co-directed. His most popular role was as Francis in the 1988 movie Mallrats, for which he won a MTV Movie Award for Best Fight. Mewes then went on to appear in several other films, including Chasing Amy and Dogma, before finally landing a major role in the 2000 film Ghost World
Mewes also starred in Kevin Smith's View Askewniverse series Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Clerks II.
