Jacques Roubaud was born in Paris in 1955. He is a painter, sculptor, and filmmaker. His film, The Time of the End (1986), won the Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. He also won the Grand Prize for his short film Le Chant de la Terre (The Song of the Earth) at the Festival de Cannes in 1998
The Time of the World (1994), his second feature film, was awarded the Grand Prix and the Grand Prix de la Nouvelle Critique at Cannes. The film opened in June 2000 and went on to win numerous awards around the world.
