Ilyas Azarouh was born in 1969 in Beirut, Lebanon. He received a bachelor's degree from the Lebanese University and a master's degree from the American University of Beirut. He completed his doctorate in Islamic Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. His research interests include Arabic literature and history, as well as cultural anthropology and cultural theory
