Igor Sikorsky was an aircraft engineer, aeronautical designer, inventor, and the founder of the Sikorsky helicopter corporation. He is best known for his development of the first practical fixed-wing aircraft designed to take off from, land on, and fly in water, which led to the invention of the flying boat in 1916. He is also known for the development of the first mass-produced helicopter in 1939. He died in 1972.
