Abu Abdallah Muhammad Ibn Abdallah Ibn Al-Nadim was a famous Arab scientist, philosopher, historian, geographer, astronomer, astrologer, and physician. Born in 892 AD in Baghdad, he was the first to draw conclusions about the spherical shape of the Earth. He gave the name "Gibralter" which is now used for Gibraltar. He was appointed court astrologer to the Caliph Al-Hakam II
His position was later given to his son Muhammed Ibn Al-Nadim who was also a great scholar.
