Howard W. Hunter was called to serve as President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 6, 1984, at age seventy-two. He was president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, First Counselor in the First Presidency, and a General Authority Seventy at the time he became President of the Church. He served until his death on October 3, 1985.
