Hong Mei is a Chinese writer, editor, and translator. She was born in Hong Kong in 1965, and received her PhD from the University of Michigan in 1999. Her publications include essays, translated poetry, and novels. Her first novel Lao Lao (1999) was awarded the Best Novel Prize by the Chinese Writers' Association
Her second novel, The Monkey King's Coat (1999), won the Best Novel Prize and the Lam Shui Po Literary Award. Her third novel, A Touch of Madness (2003), was nominated for the Man Asian Literary Prize and won the Best Novel Prize at the Taiwan Booksellers' Association competition.
