Helen McCarthy is a bestselling author of both fiction and nonfiction. She has written seventeen novels and more than fifty books for children and young adults. Her first novel, The Dark and Deadly Pool, was published in 1972 and went on to win the Edgar Award for Best First Novel. Her novels for children include The Wicked Deep (2004) and The Tunnel (2005)
She has also written two historical novels: The Frog Prince (2002) and A Handful of Gold (2009). McCarthy lives in New York City.
