Helen Gurley Brown is an American businesswoman, writer, and the creator of Cosmopolitan magazine. A pioneer in modern feminism, she was the first female editor of a major American magazine, which she founded in 1936. During her time at Cosmopolitan, she hired many women's rights activists to write for the magazine, including Gloria Steinem, Betty Friedan, Kate Millett, Germaine Greer and Sheryl Sandberg. She died on October 6th 2014.
