He later relocated to Nashville, Tennessee where he attended the famous Hill School of Music and Art, graduating with honors in 1950; he returned to Durham for college at Duke University. After earning his bachelor's degree, he enrolled at Columbia University School of Law where he earned his Juris Doctorate degree in 1953.
