Harold V. Hall is a retired United States Marine Corps Major General. He was born in Warren, Ohio, and graduated from the University of Akron, The Ohio State University and the University of Pittsburgh Law School. He graduated first in his class from the U.S
Naval War College. In October 1976, he was promoted to Brigadier General and assigned as Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, HQMC. In July 1979, he was promoted to Major General and assigned as Commanding General First Marine Division (Forward), Camp Pendleton, California.
In July 1983, he was promoted to Lieutenant General and assigned as Commanding General I Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward) at Camp Pendleton, California. In December 1986, he was promoted to the rank of General and assigned as Commander I MEF (Forward), which included all forces assigned to Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada. This operation took place from October 25 through November 19, 1983.
In August 1987, he was promoted to General and assigned as Commander I MEF (Reserve Component), including all forces assigned to Operation Just Cause in Panama from December 20 through December 31, 1989. As a result of his distinguished service during Operation Just Cause in Panama from December 20 through December 31, 1989 ,General Hall was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal by President George H. W Bush for "extraordinary achievement by a senior officer." In 1989-1990 ,General Hall was deployed to Saudi Arabia on a peacekeeping mission which included Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm .In 1992-1993 ,General Hall served as Deputy Commanding General for Operations/Commander of the United States Joint Forces Command at Fort McPherson, Georgia .In January 1994 ,General Hall retired from active duty after 38 years of service .In January 1996 , he became a consultant with the Franklin Center for Government & Public Integrity in Washington DC .
