Gregor Golob was born in Vienna, Austria, in 1937. After his studies at the University of Vienna, he began his professional career with an internship in neurosurgery in Freiburg im Breisgau. In 1967 he moved to the United States, where he had many positions in academic medicine, including director of the Department of Clinical Neurophysiology at Rutgers University School of Medicine and professor of neurophysiology at the New Jersey Medical School. He was also a visiting professor at Harvard Medical School, New York University School of Medicine, and Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Golob has published thirty-two books on music, including "Golob's Music Dictionary" (with Beatrice E.
Hulst), "The Neuroanatomy Atlas" (editor), "Movies for the Mind," and “Understanding Music: The Foundations of Creative Thinking." He has received numerous awards for his work in science and education, including the Order of Arts and Letters (France), International Society for Music Education Award (USA), Levi Strauss Award (USA), Rockefeller Foundation Award (USA), AIMA Award (USA) , the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art (Austria), US National Medal of Science (USA) , the Copley Medal (USA) , the Gold Medal from IMA Congresses (Belgium) , Honorary Membership from IMA Congresses (Canada) , Honorary Membership from IMA Congresses (Germany) , Honorary Membership from IMA Congresses (Serbia) , Honorary Membership from IMA Congresses (Slovenia) , Honorary Membership from IMA Congresses (Sweden) .
