He published his first book, The Midwich Cuckoos, in 1910 and over the next 46 years wrote more than 70 novels and stories for adults and children. His work has been translated into more than 25 languages. He is the winner of the James Tait Black Memorial Prize and two Carnegie Medals and a Gold Medal from the Royal Society of Literature.
