Gideon Tucker was born in 1892 in Irby, North Carolina. He enlisted as a private in the Company A, 83rd Battalion, North Carolina Infantry Regiment on 4 August 1917 and served as a stretcher bearer with the 83rd Infantry Division during World War I. After World War I, he returned to Irby and resumed farming. He raised three children and served as a member of the Irby Town Council from 1929 to 1949
In 1975, Tucker was elected to the North Carolina General Assembly where he served until his retirement from the legislature in 1980. In 1982, Tucker received a citation from the State of North Carolina congratulating him on his one-hundredth birthday.
