15 Quotes & Sayings By Giacomo Leopardi

Giacomo Leopardi (1798-1837) described himself as a "madman" (un uomo intontito) in his work Canoni. He was the author of one of the greatest works in European literature, the Canti (quatrains) of Leopardi, which he wrote in his final years in isolation in the isolated city of Recanati, near Ancona. The Canti are characterized by irony and boredom, and an overwhelming sense of despair. His poetry is noted for its simplicity, deep humanity and fervent imagination.
