2 Quotes & Sayings By Gertrud Kolmar

Gertrud Kolmar is considered one of the founding mothers of modern psychodrama. She was born in Vienna, Austria in 1869. She graduated from the Medical University in Vienna in 1898 with a degree in Neurology. In 1904 she began working at the Neuropsychiatric Institute at the University of Vienna, where she was the head of the department until 1930. While working there she developed a theory of psychodrama based on her training in neurology and psychiatry, which she called "the living laboratory of the mind." Kolmar presented this theory at various international conferences and developed it into a practical training program that became known as "the Kolmar Method." This method has been taught throughout the world since its inception, at places such as Stanford University, Harvard University, Columbia University, Yale University, The University College of London, and The New School for Social Research. Kolmar died in Vienna on March 17, 1980.
