George Smith Patton Jr. was a United States Army officer during World War II. He is regarded as one of the greatest generals of his generation, and was known as "the Patton." He was a highly decorated officer in both World War I and World War II, winning the Distinguished Service Cross, two Silver Stars, two Bronze Stars, and three Purple Hearts. During the Korean War he earned a third Silver Star while serving with the Third Army, where he commanded the VII Corps for a short time before being relieved of command.
