George Osborne is a British Conservative politician. He was the Member of Parliament for Tatton, and the Chancellor of the Exchequer, in the Conservative-led coalition government from 2010 until July 2012. Born in Salford and educated at Eton College and Balliol College, Oxford, Osborne was elected as Member of Parliament (MP) for Tatton in 2001. After working as an economist at Deutsche Bank and Merrill Lynch, he entered Parliament, becoming Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury during the 2005 Liberal Democrats' third term in government

Osborne was appointed Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer after David Cameron became Prime Minister in December 2005. After leading his party to victory in the 2010 general election, he entered Downing Street to become the UK's youngest Prime Minister. On 7 July 2012, following a cabinet reshuffle, Osborne announced his resignation as Chancellor of the Exchequer.
