George Ebers, born in 1868 in Vienna, Austria, was the author of the best-selling novel, The Man without a Shadow, about a young man who travels to the United States to claim his inheritance. Ebers immigrated to the United States in 1892 after serving as an attaché at the German Foreign Ministry in Berlin. Shortly thereafter he wrote his first book, The Man Without a Shadow. He began publishing prolifically in 1909, and between 1910 and 1918 he wrote over thirty novels that achieved tremendous popularity among readers of all ethnicities
By 1920, Ebers was regarded as the most popular novelist in America.
