George Anson, born in County Tipperary in 1876, was educated at Uppingham School and Trinity College, Oxford. He served in the British Army during the Boer War, but he retired in 1909 at the rank of Major. After his retirement, Anson settled in England where he became a pioneer in popularising flying. He founded an aeronautical engineering company which produced the first purpose-built aircraft to fly to Australia
He also produced two biplanes for the Royal Flying Corps. Anson died in England on 21st July 1941. His father was Count George Anson (1833-1904), who was an Anglo-Irish peer, known for his public works and philanthropic works. His mother was Countess Beatrice of Sudeley (1855-1909).
