Gavin Dunne was born and raised in County Donegal, Ireland. He is currently a PhD student at the University of Edinburgh and works as a postdoctoral research fellow at the National Museum of Scotland. Dunne's scholarship has been published by the Scottish History Society, the Historical Association and the Journal of Irish studies among others. His book, "The Irish Famine: History, Myth and Memory", was published by Cambridge University Press in 2013 and is based on his dissertation and MAs course at the University of Edinburgh
Dunne's work focuses on the history of Irish emigration and its impact on Irish history and culture. He has also researched the efforts of the British government to suppress anti-colonialist movements in colonial territories such as Ireland.
